iPhone to Mac, nothing lost.

Install GreySpace on your iPhone and your Mac, put them on the same Wi-Fi, and send videos, photos and files both ways. If the Wi-Fi drops for a few seconds, the transfer picks up on its own, right where it stopped, and every file is checked on arrival.

Ready in three steps.

  1. Install the app on both

GreySpace on the iPhone from the App Store, and on the Mac with the DMG file, notarized by Apple. Free, no account.

  2. Same Wi-Fi, or Personal Hotspot

The iPhone and the Mac don’t need to sit side by side: being on the same network is enough. No router? Join the iPhone’s Personal Hotspot from the Mac.

  3. Pick, send

The Mac shows up in the iPhone’s list. Pick your videos, photos or files, and send. On the Mac, everything lands in Downloads, one folder per send. The other way round, photos and videos land in Photos, everything else in the Files app.

Rather not install the app on the iPhone? Open GreySpace on the Mac: the iPhone scans its QR code and swaps files in Safari, with nothing to install.

An iPhone without the app? It scans.

On the Mac, GreySpace shows a QR code. An iPhone that doesn’t have the app scans it and receives your files in Safari, or sends you some. Nothing to install, no account.

Wi-Fi drops? Nothing is lost.

GreySpace retries on its own when the Wi-Fi drops for a few seconds, without resending what already arrived. Every file is checked on arrival, and only shows up once complete.

What about what’s already installed?

For a few photos between your iPhone and your Mac, AirDrop is enough, and it’s already there. Here is what each tool does, and where it stops.

  • AirDrop

Sends photos, videos and files between Apple devices near each other, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on.

Apple only: a PC or an Android in the room is left out. And Apple asks you to turn off Personal Hotspot to use it.

  • iCloud Drive and iCloud Photos

Sync your files and photo library between the iPhone and the Mac, over the internet.

Everything goes through Apple’s servers: you need a connection, room in your iCloud storage, of which 5 GB is free, and you wait for the upload, then the download.

Checked against Apple’s and Microsoft’s official help pages on 18 September 2026. iPhone, Mac, AirDrop and iCloud are trademarks of Apple Inc. GreySpace is not affiliated with or endorsed by Apple.

Why not AirDrop?

For a few photos, AirDrop works very well. GreySpace is for when AirDrop is no longer enough: you’re sending tens of gigabytes and want it to pick up if it cuts out, you’re not next to the Mac but on the same Wi-Fi, you’re on the iPhone’s Personal Hotspot, or a PC or an Android joins in. It’s the same app everywhere.

The Mac doesn’t show up on the iPhone. What should I do?

Check three things. Both devices are on the same Wi-Fi, and not on a guest network, which often keeps devices apart. On the iPhone, GreySpace has Local Network access (Settings, then GreySpace). On the Mac, if macOS asks to allow GreySpace on the local network or to accept incoming connections, allow it.

Where do the files end up?

On the Mac, in your Downloads folder, one folder per send. On the iPhone, photos and videos land in Photos, and every other file in the Files app, in the GreySpace folder.

Do I need to keep the iPhone unlocked while sending?

Yes, for now. iOS pauses an app that goes to the background: if you lock the iPhone during a send, the transfer stops. GreySpace blocks auto-lock while a transfer is running, so leave the app open until it’s done.

If it did stop, send again. Nothing arrives half-done: every file is checked before it is put away.

Are my files private?

Yes. They go directly from your device to the receiver’s, on your local network. No third-party server, even as a fallback: GreySpace never relays through the cloud.

No account on the Free plan, no usage tracking in the app, nothing collected. What moves between your devices stays between your devices.

Send anything. In one click.
