Ready in three steps.

Install the app on both
On the phone, GreySpace is in testing on Google Play: join the test in three steps, or install the APK file. On the PC, the Microsoft Store. Free, no account.
-
Same Wi-Fi, or your phone’s hotspot
Connect the phone and the PC to the same network. No router around? Turn on the phone’s hotspot and join it from the PC: the transfer stays between the two devices (step by step).
-
Pick, send
The PC shows up in the phone’s list. Pick your photos and videos in the app, or share them from your gallery with the Share button, then send. On the PC, everything lands in your Downloads folder, one folder per send. The other way round, photos and videos land in the phone’s gallery, everything else in Downloads.
Rather not install the app on the phone? Open GreySpace on the PC: the phone scans its QR code and swaps files in its browser, with nothing to install.
Testers wanted: 1 year of Pro for relevant feedback on the Discord.
Hundreds of photos, in one go.
Pick your photos and videos from an album in the app’s gallery: they go in a single send and land on the PC in a single folder. Every file keeps its format, resolution and metadata, no recompression, and is checked on arrival: nothing shows up half-done.

What about what’s already installed?
For a few photos, Quick Share or a cable will do. Here is what each tool does, and where it stops.
-
Quick Share, by Google
Sends photos, videos and files between an Android phone and a Windows PC close to each other, both ways. Already on the phone; on the PC, an app to install.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi must be on on both, on the same network, less than 5 meters (16 feet) apart: a PC without Bluetooth is left out. And the desktop app only exists for Windows, not for Mac.
-
Phone Link, by Microsoft
Links the phone to the Windows PC: texts, calls, notifications, recent photos, and sending files from the Share menu. On some phones, Samsung among them, you can also drag and drop.
Drag and drop stops at 100 files at a time and 512 MB per file, no folders. And it only links a phone to a Windows PC.
-
A USB cable, with the Windows Photos app
Plug in the unlocked phone, pick “File transfer” in the USB notification, then import your photos and videos with the Photos app, or copy them from File Explorer.
You need a cable that carries data, not just power, and the phone unlocked: locked, the PC can’t see it. To empty the whole phone in one go, a cable is still a good option.

How do I transfer photos from an Android phone to a PC without a cable?
Install GreySpace on the phone (Google Play test, or the APK file) and on the PC (Microsoft Store), and put them on the same Wi-Fi. In the app on the phone, pick your photos and videos, then tap the PC’s name. They land in your Downloads folder, in a folder of their own.
No cable, no cloud, no account, and nothing goes over the internet.
The PC doesn’t show up on the phone. What should I do?
Check two things. Both devices are on the same Wi-Fi, and not on a guest network, which often keeps devices apart. On the PC, your Wi-Fi uses the “Private” network profile (Settings, Network & internet, Wi-Fi, then your network): a “Public” profile blocks connections coming from the phone.
Do photos and videos keep their quality?
Yes. GreySpace sends the file as your gallery stores it, without recompressing it: same format (JPEG, HEIC, MP4…), same resolution, same metadata (date taken, location). A 4K video arrives in 4K. Every file is checked on arrival, and only shows up on the PC once complete.
How do I transfer photos from a Samsung to a PC?
Same as with any Android: GreySpace installs on a Galaxy like on any Android phone, and nothing else changes. A Samsung often has Quick Share and Link to Windows already installed: for a few photos to a nearby PC, they’re enough. GreySpace is for big batches, long videos, or when a Mac or an iPhone joins in.
Are my files private?
Yes. They go directly from your device to the receiver’s, on your local network. No third-party server, even as a fallback: GreySpace never relays through the cloud.
No account on the Free plan, no usage tracking in the app, nothing collected. What moves between your devices stays between your devices.
